Large furniture organizations began to branch out into general home design and management, offering full house furnishings in a number of styles. With the own design cabinet-making and office and upholstery workshops, Herter Brothers were prepared to accomplish every aspect of home furnishing including decorative mantels and paneling, wall and ceiling decoration, patterned floors, and draperies and carpets.

A pivotal figure in popularizing theories of home design to the center course was the architect Owen Jones, one of the very most influential design theorists of the nineteenth hundred years.
